Wheddon Cross and Cutcombe are, strictly speaking, two separate Somerset villages but in effect form one larger village in the centre of the Exmoor National Park. Together with the hamlet of Luckwell Bridge, about half a mile to the west, they make up the parish of Cutcombe.

Wheddon Cross/Cutcombe is the highest village on Exmoor, and is situated on the crossroads
of the main routes that run between Minehead and Dulverton (from north to south) and
from Taunton through to North Devon (from east to west).

It is a good centre for walking, riding and each of the four seasons offer different things for the visitor to see. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside and an abundance of wildlife. These include snowdrops, primroses and daffodils in the spring, followed by bluebells and heather in the autumn. Throughout the year you can see the red deer and Exmoor ponies. We are close to many favourite tourist attractions and the newly opened Coleridge Way passes through the village. There are some wonderful circular walks from the village.

Dunkery Beacon, which is 1704 feet above sea level, is the focal point of our village and Exmoor National Park and stands majestically over us.

We are nine miles from both the coastal resort of Minehead and the town of Dulverton. We are also close to the picturesque villages of Dunster and Exford.

What is so special about our village? Well, it is a thriving rural village with a good community spirit. We are lucky to have a church, chapel, school, post office, garage, hotel/pub, hairdressers, antiques shop, dress agency and many other small businesses and we are a popular place for tourists to stay and discover Exmoor. An all weather court has just been opened and is available for many sports including tennis, netball, basketball and junior sports. Over the next few pages we hope to give you an insight into our village.
