Local Events

Our local community and the surrounding areas of Exmoor are home to a wide variety of events throughout the year. From local agricultural shows to spectacular candlelight and musical events – below are just a few for you to give a try.

During February

Snowdrop Valley

Snowdrop Valley is a privately owned remote valley in a hidden part of Exmoor close to Wheddon Cross. The Badgworthy Land Company kindly allow access to the valley while the beautiful carpet of snowdrops is in bloom throughout February each year.

Cutcombe Horse Show, Gymkhana and Dog Show

Sunday 18th June 2023

Preparation is underway for this annual event at Dunkery Hill Gate. Showing classes to suit all commence at 9.30 a.m. and there will be Show Jumping and a Handy Pony ring. The will be a parade of Minehead Harriers, a Fancy Dress competition, the thrills and spills of the Gymkhana and the ever popular Dog Show at 20.00 p.m. Homemade refreshments are being provided by Friends of Cutcombe School and Dunkery Preschool.

Cutcombe Show was restarted in 1986, after a gap of many years, by a group of enthusiastic local parents – most of whom are still involved with running the show today. The first few shows were held just outside the village of Wheddon Cross but when the field was sold the show moved to an ideal location at Dunkery Hill Gate, where it is still held by the very kind permission of Mr & Mrs HJ Stevens.

Coffee Morning and Table Top Sale

Saturday 15th July 2023

The Coffee Morning and Table Top Sale event will be raise funds for the Cutcombe Village Fete!

If you’d like to take a table at the Table Top Sale – please book your table now for £5, by calling Tracy on 07869 135781.

On the day there will be bacon rolls and home made cakes to purchase, plus raffle and stalls.

Dunster Country Fair

Wednesday 26th July 2023

Dunster Country Fair is held in the picturesque setting of Dunster Castle Lawns by kind permission of The Dunster Estate. This year the fair will be celebrating 44 years from the early beginnings, as a Donkey Derby held in West Somerset. The Dunster Country Fair has grown to become one of West Somerset’s premier attractions – it’s a fun day out for all the family!

Wheddon Cross & Cutcombe Village Fete

Saturday 5th August 2023 – 1.00 p.m.

A great fun day out for the whole family – a traditional Fete with lots of attractions – Exmoor Ponies, BBQ, tombola, children’s races, face painting, skittles, Pimms tent, teas and delicious homemade cakes, produce and craft marquee, skittles, hook a duck plus lots more! All monies raised remain right in the village for their own school, hall and Church.

Exford Show

Wednesday 9th August 2023

Exmoor is a special place to many and the Show seeks to celebrate this. The finest of local horses, Exmoor Ponies and sheep are on show, together with superb crafts and trade stands. Local food and drink is available on site….and the very special local ice-cream. The setting is truly breath-taking, looking north over the Exe Valley toward Dunkery and south to Molland Common via Withypool Hill.

Dunster Show

Friday 19th August 2023

Dunster Show is the premier Agricultural Show in West Somerset and one of the major one day Shows of the West of England. Taking place on the Lawns below Dunster Castle the dramatic backdrop is a perfect setting for a family day out with a Food Hall, Trade Stands and quality entertainment for all. The Show also boasts a competitive showing atmosphere with a wide range of classes for Horses, Cattle and Sheep attracting competitors from all over the country.

Dunster by Candlelight

Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd December 2023

Dunster Village is unique with it’s wonderful, wide, High Street overlooked by the Medeival Castle. Candlelight takes place every year on the first Friday and Saturday of December when this remarkably preserved medieval village turns its back on the present and lights its streets with lanterns and where possible candles in the houses. The whole place is alive with music and entertainment.

Dulverton by Starlight

Sunday 3rd December 2023

Dulverton by Starlight is a magical event with fireworks, street entertainment, stallholders with Christmas gifts and festive refreshments. Open to everyone, free admission.
